Fanboy's Universe is an American animated television series based on the comic strip of the same name. The show is created by Luis Augusto and produced by Luis Augusto Productions, Games Animation (1986–1997), Nickelodeon Animation Studios (1998–2000). It first premiered on February 14, 1986 on CBS, as a first five-segment episode "Pilot"/"Fanboy's World"/"Reef Cartoons"/"First Short Episode"/"House at the Universe", which led to a series of half-hour episodes. The show is distributed by Viacom Media Networks and MTV Networks. The show chronicles the surreal life of an cartoony boy named Fanboy Pineman and lives in the city of Bottomville and is 1930s cartoon style, children humor, old cartoony funny jokes and random universe.

Fanboy's Universe was conceived by Luis since 1972 shortly before a solicitation for a series of animated segments with the producer Terry Ward. Luis created a world and named the characters, producing the character Fanboy Pineman. The comics became a part of Universal Press Syndicate on June 12, 1977.

The show is a variety series with short skits featuring the cartoony characters. While the show had no set format, the majority of episodes were composed of two short mini-episodes and bridging segments.

The series aired on CBS and its affiliates, except in Canada where it has aired on English and Francophone networks due to Canadian television ownership regulations with a total of 204 episodes. The show is the inspiration of Looney Tunes, Animaniacs, What a Cartoon, Geo's World, Steven Spielberg Cartoons, Ren and Stimpy and Hanna-Barbera Cartoons. Most episodes of the series consists of diverse number of segments that are approximately 11-16 minutes long.

The success of the show's premiere helped five feature films, Fanboy's Universe: The Movie, Fanboy's Universe: The Movie 2, Fanboy's Universe: Attack of the Villains and Fanboy's Universe: The Movie 3 and Fanboy's Universe: Adventures in American Continent.

The show has ended on November 25, 2000 with the series finale "Goodbye to Fanboy's Universe", and is succeeded by Fanboy's Universe: Adult Party Cartoon and Fanboy's Universe Reboot

Premise

The show takes place in various funny situations of a cartoony boy named Fanboy Pineman who lives in a big house with his siblings, the bossiest sister Maria Pineman and the little brother called Stanley Pineman. The Pineman siblings were once the cartoon characters from 1930s, in a variety show. But when Terry Ward expelled the Pineman siblings from the show and were transferred to a created cartoon named Fanboy's Universe, that Terry Ward created a show just for them to be the protagonists, but Fanboy Pineman was chosen to be a main primary protagonist

Production

Development

In 1984, Fanboy's Universe was owned by Warner Bros. and premiered for the TBS but gave a problem and it was changed to CBS. Fanboy's Universe was officially aired for the CBS. The producers had an idea for the series of half-hour episodes, they gave a lot of segments for each episode, from 2 to 10 segments, featuring the short mini-episodes and bridging segments. Fanboy's Universe was originally set to air in the summer of 1985, after the pilot episode will be shown, but when the episode came back from animation in Korea. In 1991, Fanboy's Universe was moved to Nickelodeon, because CBS had to cancel the program that production is not good for the CBS producers.
